Installing vinyl crawl space skirting on your mobile home is an effective way to keep animals and children from entering the space below. First, mark a line on the ground around your mobile home that defines the base where your bottom rail will be placed. You can draw this line by driving a stake into the ground directly under each corner of your mobile home. Next, tie a string to one of the stakes and run the string around the outside of the other three stakes as close to the ground as possible. Then, tie the end of the string to the stake where you began and pull the string taut before you tie it. Finally, set up a line around the mobile home that you can use as a guide to install your bottom rail.

Once you have the guide line set up, continue along the string until you have located the highest point of ground. At this point, attach the back top rail to the mobile home with a screw. Be sure that the bottom of the rail is flush with the bottom of the mobile home before you proceed. Then, finish attaching the remainder of the back top rail following the guide line.

At the stake where you first attached your guide line, measure the distance from the ground to the back top rail’s bottom edge. Cut a panel section, making it 1-inch longer than the distance between the ground and the bottom edge of the top rail. Once you have the panel cut to size, insert it into the bottom rail. Repeat this process until you have a panel inserted into the bottom rail, all around the mobile home.

When you come to a corner of the mobile home, use the procedure described above and bend the panel around said corner. First, score the panel, then bend it to fit the corner. Finally, attach the last section by inserting a screw through both sections.

Once you have finished the lower rail installation, snap the top rail cover into place on the top back rail. Be careful not to place the ends of the top rail covers against each other. This will help to ensure that the covers will not buckle or bulge when they are heated and expand. Use the same procedure to attach the top rail covers completely around the mobile home. At each corner of the mobile home, make a 1-inch notch in the rail cover’s top edge. Finally, score the cover’s back surface slightly.
