Create Professional-Quality Wainscoting Outside Corners with Simple Installation Steps
Installing wainscoting in a room is a great way to add a touch of luxury and elegance to any room of your house. It is also an easy DIY project that almost anyone can do in a matter of hours.
That said, there are some applications that may require a bit of extra attention – one of them being when you need to install wainscoting on outside corners. If you are considering this project, or already working on it, here are some simple steps that you should follow to achieve perfect results.
First, you will need to start at the bottom of the wall and measure the height of the wall up to where the wainscoting will be installed. When measuring, make sure there is no variance in length.
When it comes to the outside corner, you will need to create a bevel cut on the first plank. To make the cut, start by adjusting the blade of the table saw to a 45-degree angle. Then, place the plank on the saw and run it lengthwise through to make the beveled corner angle down the entire edge of the plank.
Now you can cut the second board that will be butted up against the first one, using the same bevel angle. When the cuts are made, you can install the first board against the wall by adding a bead of adhesive and securing it with some finish nails. Make sure to place the nails in the beads or along with the tongue of the plank.
For the other side of the corner, apply adhesive to the back of the second plank and line it up with the corner edge of the first one. Secure it with finish nails as well and make sure to check that the two boards are tightly fitted to one another.
And there you have it! The task of installing wainscoting on outside corners may seem a bit daunting at first, but if you follow the steps above, you will achieve perfect results. With the right tools and materials, wainscoting can easily transform any room of your home.
